About that new tablet...

We went to the Grand Opening of the Apple store near me. Oh how I love shiny new gadgets! The iPad mini was everything I already love about the iPad. We have hundreds of apps for productivity, education, leisure, and some for pure fun. I loved the apps at Duck Duck Moose when my children were younger. The apps were crisp and sharp even though the Mini doesn't have the retina display. Speed has never been a issue for me but yeah I'd say it was fast. It was smaller and lighter than our current iPads. Although that might be an attractive feature for some users for Tech Dude it is a problem. A serious problem see exhibit #1.

Exhibit #1
Your eyes do not deceive you. This is Tech Dude's iPad last night. Yes even though it was protected by the highly reviewed Otterbox Defender he managed to smash the screen. He had this iPad for over a year. He's dropped it from the car, thrown it down the steps, you name it he's tried. Faithfully, the Defender protected the iPad from damage. That is until now. So what lessons are to be shared here? Hmmm...
  1.  Be careful that your children don't develop the 'if I break it Mommy will get me another one attitude'
  2. Don't give your children expensive and fragile gadgets.
The iPad Mini and the Kindle are out of the running for now until Tech Dude is more mature. Good thing we have a Ubreakifix near us. They fixed up his iPad good as new for less than $140 bucks. Can't beat that! Now our holiday shopping budget is little less. Not complaining at all.

Do you Houzz?

Seriously I cannot get anything done anymore. Right after I tuck Tech Dude and Tech Diva into bed I am stuck on Houzz. What's even worse is that I have the TV tuned to HGTV! Tech Diva always teases me about being addicted to house stuff. If somehow you don't already know about Houzz check out their self description. They must have millions of inspiration pics from real projects. Just key your heart's desire into the search box and you get photos, discussions, articles, products and even links to pros in your area. Just tonight I have been looking for countertop inspiration for two hours. I need help.  I apologize in advance to your family, you will never be the same.

My first post and some stuff about tablets.

Hey there world! Aren't you lucky you get to read my first ever blog post! I am a Tech Mommy and teacher who loves to read blogs. I am uber excited to jump into they fray. Anyhoo, my friends and family always ask me what I think before they make a tech. purchase. Why anyone would want advice from someone as indecisive as me continues to evade me but I digress... The popular question posed lately is what tablet should I get my ______ (insert the fortunate one). Well I've been pondering this one myself. The first thing I did was check out Leane Lofte's post at imore.com. She has oodles of eye candy comparing the various iterations of the iPad and iPhone. Disclaimer - I always go to Apple first because that what I use at work and I know how to fix 'em if when they have issues. Still I am considering the Kindle Fire too. Today only, the Kindle Fire is available for only $129. (Enter promotional code FIREDEAL at checkout on Amazon) Price is definitely factor when I consider a tech purchase. Both my son, Tech Dude and daughter, Tech Diva already have first generation iPads. Great product, we love them but they don't have a camera and are pretty heavy compared to the new ones so an upgrade is in order. I think Tech Dude will get a Mini and Tech Diva will get an iPhone. I may get the Kindle Fire for me to read blogs and surf. I am off to the Apple store to play with the iPad Mini. I will let you know what I think in my next post.

Til then,
